Wrist & Hand

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful condition originating from the median nerve of the wrist. It occurs when the nerve becomes compressed or traumatized where it travels through the carpal tunnel. The causes can vary and are not always fully understood.

Symptoms

  • Tingling or numbness in the fingers or hand
  • Decreased pinch strength
  • Pain radiating from the wrist
  • A dull ache in the forearm
  • Stiff fingers

Causes

Genetics, pregnancy, repetitive use, degenerative changes

Treatment options

Shockwave therapy, Nerve hydrodissection, PRP, Pulsed Radiofrequencies (PRF)

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

Inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, often due to repetitive thumb/wrist motions.

Symptoms

  • Pain near the base of the thumb, often radiating into the forearm
  • Friction-inducing inflammation or swelling
  • Diminished mobility in the thumb and wrist
  • Msce spasms

Causes

Repetitive strain (thumb and wrist overuse)

Treatment options

Prolotherapy, PRP, shockwaves

Tendinitis & Tendinosis

These common hand and wrist conditions are characterized by inflammation of a tendon caused by various factors including repetitive use, injury, and pre-existing medical conditions.

Symptoms

  • Pain in the affected areaSwelling and inflammation
  • Warmth and redness around the tendon
  • Weakness in the wrist or affected area
  • Grinding sensation when moving the joint

Causes

Repetitive use, injury, underlying medical conditions

Treatment options

Prolotherapy, PRP, shockwaves

Wrist / Hand Osteoarthritis & Joint Pain

One of the most common causes of wrist and hand pain, osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease characterized by the loss of cartilage and fluid surrounding the joints. This occurrence results in pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of strength that tends to worsen over time without effective medical intervention.

Symptoms

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Joint instability
  • Decreased range of motion
  • A locking or catching sensation in the joint

Causes

Age, gender, obesity, family history, injury/overuse, autoimmune conditions (RA, gout)

Treatment options

PRP, Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF)

Trigger Finger (Stenosing Tenosynovitis)

Trigger finger is a common cause of finger pain and dysfunction, resulting from inflammation and thickening of the flexor tendon and its surrounding pulley system. This condition interferes with the smooth gliding of the tendon, causing the finger to catch, lock, or snap during movement. Without appropriate treatment, symptoms may progressively worsen and significantly limit hand function.

Symptoms

  • Finger pain, especially at the base of the affected finger or thumb
  • Stiffness, particularly in the morning
  • A catching, clicking, or locking sensation during finger movement
  • Difficulty fully bending or straightening the finger
  • In advanced cases, the finger may become locked in a flexed position

Causes

Repetitive gripping or overuse, tendon inflammation and thickening, diabetes and metabolic conditions, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory disorders, occupational or sport-related hand strain

Treatment options

Ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injections, platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), percutaneous ultrasound-guided pulley release
