Ankle / Foot

Achilles Tear / Tendinosis

Common in runners, this condition is characterized by inflamed tendons. An Achilles tear /tendinosis in the ankle / foot can be caused by repetitive use, injury, medical conditions, and certain medications. To prevent Achilles tears and tendinosis, it is important to incorporate warm-up and cool-down periods into exercise routines, especially before engaging in repetitive use activities.

Symptoms

  • Painless or painful swelling
  • A feeling of fullness or a lump in the knee
  • Stiffness or tightness
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Occasional clicking or locking in the knee joint
  • Symptoms that worsen after activity or standing for a long time

Causes

Repetitive use, injury, medical conditions, certain medications.

Treatment options

PRP, SVF, Botox.

Ankle / Foot Ligament Tears

When a fully stretched ligament in the ankle or foot encounters an extreme impact or trauma, it may tear.

Symptoms

  • A popping sensation
  • Swelling or stiffness
  • Pain, especially when twisting or rotating the ankle / foot
  • Difficulty fully straightening the ankle / foot
  • A locking sensation in the ankle / foot
  • Joint instability
  • Muscle spasms

Causes

Twisting/rolling ankle, trauma, uneven surfaces, sports repetition, degeneration.

Treatment options

Shockwave, prolotherapy, PRP.

Foot / Ankle Osteoarthritis & Joint Pain

Arthritis in the ankle or foot causes the joints in these regions to deteriorate over time. This process creates tenderness, pain, stiffness, swelling, and limited mobility in the affected area(s). Osteoarthritis is the most common form of this degenerative disease.

Symptoms

  • Pain that increases with activity
  • Swelling
  • Joint instability
  • Decreased range of motion
  • A locking or catching sensation in the joint

Causes

Age, genetics, obesity, family history, injury/overuse, pre-existing conditions.

Treatment options

Shockwave, PRP, SVF.

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome (TTS)

This condition is caused by the compression or irritation of the posterior tibial nerve as it passes through the tarsal tunnel (a narrow space on the inside of the ankle). TTS can lead to pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the ankle, foot, and toes.

Symptoms

  • Burning or shooting pain along the inner ankle and bottom of the foot
  • Numbness or tingling in the affected area
  • Increased discomfort and reduced endurance with prolonged standing, walking, or activity
  • Pain that becomes more noticeable at night and interferes with restful sleep

Causes

Repetitive stress, injury, arthritis, flat feet/hyperpronation, scar tissue or cysts.

Treatment options

Platelet lysate, SVF, nerve hydrodissection.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a painful foot and ankle condition commonly seen in long-distance runners. Characterized by a stabbing sensation that’s typically most intense in the mornings, it can eventually lead to debilitating chronic heel pain.

Symptoms

  • Gradual or sudden pain after jumping or missing a step
  • Pain that’s most intense in the mornings or after periods of inactivity
  • A stabbing or bruised sensation
  • Pain in the arch of the foot
  • Stiffness or tightness in the arch of the foot or in the Achilles tendon
  • Swelling or redness around the heel

Causes

obesity, high arches, prolonged standing, exercising on hard surfaces, tight calves, overstretching, poor footwear, excess weight, certain exercises.

Treatment options

shockwave therapy, prolotherapy, PRP, SVF.
